Drones have a new job.

At least from Omaha south to Nebraska City.

For the next two weeks, for the first time, the Omaha Public Power District is using a drone to survey transmission lines and equipment.

OPPD tells us they’ll be examining about 100 miles of the 1,344 miles of transmission lines across the utility’s 13-county service area.

OPPD wants customers to know that they may see drones hovering near power equipment during this evaluation.
