New 'Northeast Nebraska Junior Golf Tour' gives young players place to compete, improve
NORFOLK, Neb. -- Golf enthusiasts in northeast Nebraska have a new reason to cheer as the Northeast Nebraska Junior Golf Tour is all set to tee off this summer.
Jeff Kuhn, the general manager at Norfolk Country Club and executive director of the tour, announced the launch of the tour, which is aimed at providing young golfers aged six through 18 an opportunity to compete and have fun.
“We were able to create this wonderful golf tour, the Northeast Nebraska Junior Golf Tour, that will hopefully provide a fun, but yet competitive experience for all of our golfers and soon to be golfers here in the northeast Nebraska area,” he said.
Kuhn, who recalled enjoying junior golf opportunities himself, views the tour as a means of paying it forward to the next generation of young golfers.
“It’s giving back,” he said. “Now it's my turn to give back and give the ability or an outlet for all these kids to be able to compete.”
The upcoming season will be packed with eight events as part of the tour. For just $75, young golfers can participate in all the events, and take full advantage of everything the tour has to offer.
“It's more advantageous for those kids to be able to A) play because of monetary value and B) because of location,” he said. “As they get better through the tour, and they want to venture off…that’s exactly what we want them to do.”
Ultimately, Kuhn and other tour organizers see the tour as a new chance for young golfers to engage with a sport they can enjoy for a lifetime.
“What they’re really getting out of it, is being able to play a game for a lifetime,” he said. “There’s nothing like it in the entire world, of being able to do the same thing for the entirety of your life.”
