Forget all the time and big money that found Nebraska voters approving voter ID last year, the devilish details are mucking things up and GOP infighting finds voter ID in jeopardy.

So much so that the key state lawmaker who took the reins demanding a valid photo ID before you can cast a ballot, is ready to shelve the whole operation.

State Sen. Julie Slama, a conservative Republican, is looking to kill her own bill (LB535) apparently worried it’s been watered down and won’t prevent fraud.

At the same time though, it’s been widely reported that the man in charge of Nebraska elections, GOP Secretary of State Bob Evnen—who has repeatedly said vote fraud in Nebraska is almost non-existent—continues to work with other lawmakers to finalize a package that the full Legislature can pass in order to have voter ID ready for the next statewide elections in 2024.

Stay tuned to see if the Evnen plan gets to the floor and if it does will it appease those Nebraskans who continue to question the legitimacy of the state’s elections.

NCN’s Joe Jordan has spoken with Evnen about those election deniers. Can they be convinced that when the votes are counted everything is on the up-and-up?
