PLATTSMOUTH, Neb. -- A Cass County Sheriff's deputy was injured in a crash with a teenage driver on Friday.

Sheriff Robert Sorenson said his office, along with Murray Fire and Rescue, Cass County Emergency Management and the Nebraska State Patrol responded to a two-vehicle crash Friday afternoon on Highway 75 near Young Road.

According to Sorenson, a deputy was southbound on Highway 75 just before 1:00 p.m. when he notified Cass County Dispatch that he'd just been involved in a head-on collision.

Sorenson said his office's investigation determined that a Chevrolet Cruze driven by a Weeping Water 18-year-old was northbound on Highway 75 before leaving the roadway to the right side. The driver attempted to re-enter the roadway causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle, according to Sorenson. The vehicle crossed the centerline and collided with the driver's side of the deputy's vehicle, Sorenson said. Both vehicles came to rest on the west side of Highway 75.

The 18-year-old and her passenger were treated at the scene and did not require medical transport. The Cass County Deputy was transported by Murray Rescue to UNMC for what were determined to be minor injuries.

The deputy was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, but the other driver was not, according to Sorenson.

Nebraska State Patrol is handling the official accident investigation.
