Years before there was George Floyd, Nebraska had Vivian Strong, a 14-year-old black girl, shot and killed by a white Omaha police officer.

The shooting sparked several days of riots on the city's predominately black north side.

The neighborhood, just blocks from downtown, doesn’t look like it did 50 years ago, the Logan Fontenelle Housing Projects are gone, replaced by green space and far newer and affordable homes.

Now her 1969 death finds the city naming a street after her, the street where she died.

The street renaming is scheduled for Friday.
