A half-million-dollar home in Omaha is up for sale.

Nothing unusual about that, except that the home belongs to ousted City Councilman Vinny Palermo.

Just two days after he was officially thrown off the Omaha City Council, Democrat Vinny Palermo—who sits in jail, accused of federal fraud and corruption charges—likely learned that his South Omaha home is officially up for sale.

A judge’s August 3 divorce court order says the 13th Street home, shall be “sold in a commercially reasonable manner…with the proceeds (from the sale) placed in a trust account” as final details of the divorce are worked out.

The Palermo home was the scene of an FBI search warrant aided-raid last December, which led to Palermo’s indictment and the Council’s unanimous vote last week ousting Palermo following three months of missed meetings, a violation of the City Charter.

That unanimous vote found at least one councilman conflicted.

Councilman Danny Begley (D): “In serving with Mr. Palermo for two years, Councilman Palermo, I will just say that he was always helpful when I had an issue that I needed to discuss regarding constituents or city services. He was always helpful in making me a better Councilman, reaching out to constituents. It is evident by the charges and the challenges he's facing legally, I will just say that I will continue to pray for Vinny and his family as they go through this because it's a tough ordeal not only for the city and District 4 but also for their personal family, what they’re going through.”

As for the Palermo home, as NCN reported earlier there are accusations that Palermo upgraded the backyard pool with a kickback: a discount from a contractor who also had contracts with the city.

The four bedroom, three bath house carries an assessed value of $534,000.
