Caseworker injured in Lincoln shooting, one arrested
A man was arrested in Lincoln after reportedly shooting a caseworker.
LINCOLN, Neb. -- A man was arrested in Lincoln after reportedly shooting a caseworker.
The Lincoln Police Department said officers were sent to the area of N 7th St. and Y St. around 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday for a report of a person that was shot.
Officers said they found a 28-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his leg. He was reportedly taken to a nearby hospital for his non-life threatening injuries.
According to authorities, the victim was a Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services caseworker. He and another DHHS worker were reportedly responding to a child welfare check at a home.
Police said the suspect came outside while the two caseworkers were in front of the home. The suspect reportedly fired off several rounds from a handgun on the front porch.
Officers said the other DHHS caseworker was not injured. They arrested 38-year-old Brent Lopez, of Lincoln, for assault on an officer, a Class II felony, and use of a firearm to commit a felony.
LPD said three children were taken to a safe location.
An investigation is ongoing and anyone with information can contact LPD or Crime Stoppers.
