Refusing to vote for Jim Jordan for Speaker finds Nebraska Congressman Don Bacon’s wife, yes, his wife, receiving nasty anonymous texts.

One reads, “Your husband will not hold any political office ever again. What a disappoint (sic) and failure he is.”

And it didn’t stop with texts.

Rep. Don Bacon, NE-2 (R): “Phone calls. They were calling my wife anonymously. If they think a pressure campaign or a bullying campaign is going to work with me it’s not.”

And then there were the calls to Omaha’s conservative talk radio shows.

KFAB Radio Caller 1: “Don is miscalculating the politics here. Better off making a stake in the ground, being a true conservative.”

KFAB Radio Caller 2: “A lot of the times he votes with the Democrats. Which makes me wonder is he a Republican or is he a Democrat?”

But Bacon insists he’s not budging.

CNN: “Jordan is doing worse than he was yesterday, he had fewer votes.”

Bacon: “I believe he’s done, he needs to withdraw.”

KFAB Radio Caller 3: “I don't know if I'm going to vote for this clown again.”

Joe Jordan, NCN: “As for those Republican voters who are furious with Bacon, a couple of things to keep in mind. First, there is no indication that some other Republican is going to challenge Bacon in next spring’s GOP Primary. And if Bacon is on the general election ballot in November 2024 those upset with him have two choices. Don’t vote for Bacon or just don’t vote. But either way that puts Democrat Tony Vargas a whole lot closer to Congress.”
