Winside hosts tree-lighting ceremony
WINSIDE, Neb. -- Holiday traditions are returning all over the state, even in some of the smallest communities.
The Village of Winside hosted its annual tree-lighting on Sunday in its downtown park.
Not only was the downtown tree lit up for the first time, but attendees were able to play games, eat holiday snacks and even get some face time with Santa himself.
Volunteers say it's important for even some of the smallest towns in Nebraska to have as big of a holiday celebration as they can.
"It's huge. You can tell that everyone really wants to come and support it," said Kyle Skokan, a volunteer. "We have a very supportive village. They let us use all of the facilities for free, let us plug into everything. I mean it's super nice. That's really important for a small town."
The Holiday lighting wrapped up with a lighted parade that worked its way to the village auditorium.
