According to police the shooting, in an alleyway near 32nd and L Streets, came during a disturbance involving a firearm, when two Hispanics were hit by the officers’ gunfire.

The dead men identified as 26-year-old Fernando Rodriguez-Juarez, and 28-year-old Jonathan Hernandez-Rosales.

The police officers identified as Captain Jay Leavitt who has been with OPD for over 25 years, and Officer Robert Soldo who has been with OPD eight-and-a half years. Both are on paid administrative leave and are scheduled to be interviewed Tuesday.

According to police, a gun was found inside the men's SUV, but further details have not been released, leaving more questions than answers.

Police are asking that any witnesses who were at the Extasis Night Club, 3050 L Street less than 2 blocks from the shooting, come forward.

OPD believes, “many witnesses who could provide valuable information left the scene without speaking to officers.”
