LINCOLN - A federal grand jury has indicted an Auburn man on a Feb. 27 firearms charge.

A federal affidavit says an FBI agent working on the Capital Region Safe Street Task Force beginning in January conducted social media surveillance.

The affidavit says Jermaine Cobb, 33, posted videos to Facebook showing him in possession of firearms in Auburn. The task force contacted the Nemaha County Sheriff’s Office to verify the location.

A federal search warrant was served in Auburn on Feb. 27 and federal court documents say a handgun was recovered.

Cobb faces a maximum of 15 years in prison and $250,000 fine, if convicted of possession of firearm by a prohibited person.

His case is among 17 indictments announced by Acting U.S. Attorney Matt Molsen.

The affidavit says Cobb posted a video to Facebook on Jan. 31 showing him in possession of rifle and pointing it out the window of a vehicle. The video is captioned ‘Don’t get hit with that whoopty whoop.’

Task force investigators say a Facebook live video was created on Feb. 1 that appears to show a Mac-9 9 mm pistol and the pistol was seen in a subsequent video with ammunition.

The affidavit says Cobb is seen in another Facebook live video on Feb. 1  exiting a Jeep stating he must make this “play.”

The affidavit says Cobb then re-enters the Jeep and displays U.S. currency and says he made a play for $200. Agents say the video shows him getting out at his Auburn residence and saying “he is in Nebraska.”

On Feb. 9, a Facebook live video shows the Mac 9 handgun.

Investigators sent a video to the Nemaha County Sheriff’s Office on Feb. 12, who confirmed the Auburn address.
