Doane captures program's first GPAC women's golf team championship

CAIRO - Doane's women's golf team captured their first conference title in team history by winning the GPAC team title at the Centura Hills Golf Club in Cairo this week.
The Tigers shot a three-round total of 955, 91 over par, and edged past Dakota Wesleyan by three strokes to win the team title and book a spot in the NAIA championships for the first time. Doane improved their team performance each round and saved the best for last: the Tigers shot +23 in Tuesday's final round, the best by any team in the field. Morningside finished third at +107.
Four other schools from Nebraska competed in the 12-team conference field this week: Saint Mary (6th); Concordia (7th); Hastings (10th) and Midland (12th).
A strong team showing helped lead the Tigers to the team title: Doane had three athletes finish in the top ten, led by a second-place finish from freshman Connie Jarm who shot 17 over par (233). Jarm was rock solid over the course of the week, shooting four over in both of the last two rounds to rise up to second place in her first conference tournament. Laila Saunders finished tied for sixth at +22 with Kaitlyn Dumler just behind at +23, tied for eighth in the field.
Dakota Wesleyan's Allison Meyerink was the individual champion at +13. She shot 11-over in round two, but more than made up for it with an even round one and a +2 in round three. There were only three rounds of two-over recorded by anyone at any point in the tournament, and Meyerink had two of those three to book herself a place at the NAIA championships which begin on May 13 in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
Dordt's Julia Love and Morningside's Alysen Sander finished tied for third at +18 while Concordia's Emery Custer finished fifth at +20. All athletes that placed in the top ten (including ties) were awarded all-conference honors.
