SCOTTSBLUFF — Two Scottsbluff teenagers were arrested Saturday night after a car struck a utility pole and caused a temporary power outage on East 7th Street.

According to the Scottsbluff Police Department, officers responded to the intersection of East 7th Street and 11th Avenue around 9:59 p.m. for a report of a vehicle crashing into a residence. Upon arrival, officers found a 2010 Chrysler 300 that had collided with a utility pole and a nearby chain-link fence.

The driver, identified as 19-year-old Alvaro Pacheco, and passenger, 18-year-old Joslyn Campos, were both transported to the hospital for medical evaluation before being booked into the Scotts Bluff County Detention Center.

Investigators determined alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash. Pacheco was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and minor in possession of alcohol. Campos was arrested for minor in possession of alcohol and false reporting.

Police say the car sustained disabling damage and is likely a total loss. The crash caused power outages for nearby residents and forced a partial closure of East 7th Street for about 80 minutes while emergency crews cleared the scene.

Assisting at the scene were the Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Office, Nebraska Public Power District and the Scottsbluff Fire Department.

The police department issued a reminder of the dangers and consequences of impaired driving.
