Sidney man seriously injured in motorcycle crash east of Potter

POTTER, Neb. – A Sidney man was seriously injured in a motorcycle crash Saturday afternoon on U.S. Highway 30 east of Potter, according to the Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office.
Emergency crews were dispatched at approximately 3:42 p.m. to mile marker 43 near the Point of Rocks, where investigators say two motorcyclists were traveling eastbound when one failed to navigate a curve and left the roadway.
According to the sheriff’s office, 58-year-old Timothy J. Harris of Sidney exited the road into the south ditch, where his motorcycle went airborne twice before crashing through two barbed wire fences and several bushes. Harris was thrown from the motorcycle and located on his back in a large thicket.
Harris sustained extensive injuries and was transported to Sidney Regional Medical Center. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Authorities say alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor.
The second motorcyclist, 37-year-old Scott M. Hill of Washburn, Wisconsin, was also stopped at the scene. Deputies reported smelling alcohol and conducted a DUI investigation. Hill was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
The crash remains under investigation.
