One of the six suspects arrested in connection with a sex trafficking bust last year has pleaded guilty to federal charges

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - One of the six suspects arrested in connection with a sex trafficking bust last year has pleaded guilty to federal charges.

Patel Kavankumar, 27, pleaded guilty to two of the eight counts against him in federal court while his case for sexual assault in Douglas County District Court was dismissed.

Kavankumar was one of six people arrested at the AmericInn motel near South 15th and Spring Street.

Eduardo Jose Perdomo, 36, Michel Martinez-Gonzalez, 28, and Alfredo Zambrano-Hurtado, 24, were all charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit human trafficking, and two counts of sex trafficking minors or by force, fraud, and/or coercion.

Sumit Chaudhari, 23, and Vishal Goswami, 31, are all charged with two counts of sex trafficking minors or by the use of force, fraud, or coercion.

Perdomo and Martinez-Gonzalez were further charged with two counts of child enticement.

According to a release from the United States Attorney’s Office, charges of human trafficking carry a maximum penalty of life in prison, a $250,000 fine, and a term of supervised release up to life.

In his plea, Kavankumar admitted he was aware of the trafficking while working at the hotel and continued to “harbor, obtain, and maintain the minors in the hotel,” per court records.

He faces a sentence of 10 years up to life in prison and a maximum of a $250,000 fine and supervised release of 5 years to life if/when he is released.
