SIDNEY -- Sidney City Clerk Lori Borchert celebrated more than 35 years in the Clerk's office Monday.

The fanfare was decorated with an open house at Council Chambers attended by constant flow of friends, co-workers past and present and family.

In recalling her time in the City Clerk's Office, she took a deep breath and thought of the city councils, city managers, Clerk's and changes in procedures.

"Ohh! Well, [I] started here 35 years, nine months, one day and had three or four different city managers, different councils, two city clerks, but it's been fun," Borchert said Monday.

Her history starts from the ground up, according to Borchert.

"Well, I started as a utility billing clerk, and then later on I kind of graduated to the bookkeeper and accounts payable. And then, I moved into the city clerk position," she said.

She looks back over 3 1/2 decades and sees change, with new technology and automation, especially during COVID.

"Lots of change. Lots of change. When COVID happened, I mean everything changed. They people don't come in and frequent the office as much as they used to, and we were just talking about it with the girls in the office I said when I first started here the postage machine I used to go do the bills one at a time, and now that's all automatic. I mean, that's just a small thing that has changed," she said.

Borchert said her retirement plans are first to do more camping. After that, the plan is to wait and see and do it on her time.
