DOUGLAS COUNTY, Neb. (WOWT) - Emergency personnel responded to a fatal crash Thursday morning on Bennington Road after a driver ran a stop sign on 204th Street and later died from his injuries.

According to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office, a witness said t green sedan was speeding eastbound on Bennington Road when it failed to stop at the sign and “T-boned” a dark SUV heading northbound on 204th Street. The sedan rolled into a field, and the driver was transported to CHI-Bergan Mercy, where he was pronounced dead, the release states.

Children had to be extricated from the SUV before they and the driver of that vehicle were transported to CHI-Bergan Mercy as well, the report states.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Wayne D. Hudson told news partner WOWT earlier that one person died after two vehicles were involved in the Bennington-area crash, which remains under investigation. Earlier Thursday, an Omaha Police dispatcher confirmed two people were transported, one with potentially life-threatening injuries, from a crash at 204th Street and Bennington Road.

The crash remains under investigation.

Also on Thursday, a Sheriff’s Office vehicle en route to the Bennington Road crash scene was then involved in a crash at 156th and Fort streets, where one person was hurt and transported with injuries to the hospital.

Authorities had 204th Street closed between Rainwood and Bennington roads while they were investigating the crash there.

Omaha Police are investigating the crash on Fort Street. Hudson said he and two Douglas County Sheriff’s captains were on their way to the Bennington Road crash when a sheriff’s vehicle collided with another vehicle at the 156th Street intersection.
