LINCOLN, Neb. -- Lincoln authorities responded to multiple auto thefts, leading to two arrests on Tuesday.

Around 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 6th, a 64-year-old victim reported his blue Chevy Silverado had been stolen from inside his garage in the 1700 block of North 80th Street, after he left the garage door open overnight.

Authorities said the keys were left inside the truck.

Officials said at 7:00 a.m. on January 9th, officers spotted the stolen vehicle parked and running in an alley near 10th Street and Park Street. A driver later identified as 27-year-old Gabriel Kuhfahl was observed seated in the driver’s seat.

Authorities said officers approached the vehicle on foot and gave Kuhfahl orders to exit the stolen vehicle, but he sped away. He struck a residence in the 2200 block of South 10th Street -- causing approximately $3000 worth of damage -- and sped off out of the area.

Officials said officers were unable to pursue him but obtained information indicating he was also involved in several other vehicle thefts in Lincoln.

Around 9:45 a.m. on January 11th, officers received report of a suspicious vehicle in the area of 10th Street and Park Street.

Officers said they saw Kuhfahl walking in the area with 32-year-old Jordon Russell.

Officials said they tried to contact the two for prior vehicle thefts but both fled on foot.

Officers gave chase and eventually placed both males under arrest after Kuhfahl resisted officers’ attempts to place him into handcuffs.

Kuhfahl was found to be in possession of the key to the aforementioned blue Chevy Silverado, along with several other vehicle keys and a tool commonly used to bypass vehicle locks.

Two other previously stolen vehicles, a white GMC Yukon and a black Honda Accord, were found parked in a lot near where Kuhfahl was first seen. Russell was arrested for three outstanding warrants.

Kuhfahl was arrested for theft by receiving (felony), operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, leaving the scene of an accident, willful reckless driving, resisting arrest, possession of burglar’s tools, and an outstanding arrest warrant.

Additional charges are expected in the coming days for other vehicle thefts Kuhfahl was reportedly involved in.
