Funeral services for former Nebraska Congressman Brad Ashford, who died Tuesday at the age of 72, have been set.

The family will have a visitation at 6:15 p.m. Friday at Christ the King Catholic Church, 654 S. 86th St., which will be followed by a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Ashford's passion for public service is being remembered by a number of Nebraskans from Gov. Pete Ricketts, Senators Ben Sasse and Deb Fischer to Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert, Congressman Don Bacon and several lawmakers who served in the Nebraska Legislature with Ashford, who passed away following a months-long battle with brain cancer.

News Channel Nebraska's Joe Jordan covered Ashford for nearly 40 years and shared his thoughts with KMTV, Omaha.
