According to Stanton County Sheriff Mike Unger, the southbound grain truck, which was operated by a Norfolk driver, had its tires go off the roadway. Unger said the driver overcorrected, causing it to roll before coming to a rest on its side in the west ditch.
The driver, former Norfolk Public Schools Superintendent James Merritt, was pulled from the truck and transported to Faith Regional by Norfolk Fire and Rescue. He was later transferred to an Omaha hospital.
According to Unger, the driver’s injuries were not considered life-threatening.
