New vote totals find key legislative race taking major turn

There’s been a major change with wide-ranging ramifications for abortion and more, in a key race for the Nebraska Legislature.
According to new numbers out of Douglas County, Democrat John Fredrickson now leads Republican Stu Dornan by 69 votes. Fredrickson was trailing Dornan by 122 votes on Election Day.
Although the results are still not official, they are significant.
A Fredrickson win would prevent Republicans in the Legislature from acquiring a 33-vote, potentially filibuster-proof majority.
The votes counted today were early voting ballots that were turned in on Election Day.
Still to be counted are a reported 204 provisional ballots and possibly some additional early voting ballots.
According to the Douglas County Election Commission, those votes will not be tabulated for another week.
We’re told they will be added to the current totals by 5 p.m. next Friday.
