Stothert: Crime about people not guns as city still homicide free in 2023
Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert, differing from other big city mayors, tells News Channel Nebraska that crime is about people, not firearms.
Her comments coming as the mayor of Louisville, Kentucky wants Congress to address gun violence in the wake of that city’s mass bank shooting that has left at least five people dead, many others injured, including a police officer who is still in critical condition.
NCN’s Joe Jordan spoke with Stothert at City Hall this morning as she celebrated an Omaha rarity: no homicides for the first 100 days of the year. "The media is not even reporting this and I do not know why," said Stothert. "We've confiscated illegal guns, we've expanded our gang unit. You commit a crime in Omaha, you're going to get caught."
