LINCOLN, Neb. -- A local credit union is taking part in a nationwide campaign to make the world a better place.

The "Best Day Ever" campaign, created by the Dream Machine Foundation, is aiming to produce 100,000 acts of kindness on Friday and Liberty First Credit Union joined the effort in spreading that kindness to Nebraskans.

The Lincoln-based institution had its members wear capes and randomly pass out 200 red envelopes in eastern Nebraska.

Each envelope had an inspirational message and $5 to $50 cash inside. Angie Schreiner, who led the effort for Liberty First, said seeing people's reaction was her favorite part.

"[It's] something they don't expect," Schreiner said. "It's a big surprise for them. Whether it made their day because they were having a down day, or they just needed that cup of coffee and were a little bit short. We were able to help out. Those reactions from people were amazing."

After making stops in downtown Seward, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus, and the Haymarket, the day's activities wrapped up in Ralston at the Liberty First Credit Union Arena.
