Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for North Central Logan County

DENVER, Colo. — May 18, 2025 — The National Weather Service in Denver has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for north central Logan County in northeastern Colorado. The warning is in effect until 5:00 p.m. MDT.
At 4:26 p.m., radar detected a severe thunderstorm near Peetz, about 21 miles north of Sterling, moving northeast at 20 miles per hour. The storm is producing wind gusts up to 70 miles per hour and hail as large as half dollars.
Forecasters warn that the storm may cause hail damage to vehicles and considerable tree damage. Wind damage is also possible to roofs, mobile homes, and outbuildings.
The primary area of concern is the town of Peetz and surrounding rural communities.
The National Weather Service noted that tornadoes can rapidly develop from storms of this intensity. A Tornado Watch remains in effect for portions of northeastern Colorado through 8:00 p.m. MDT.
Residents are urged to take shelter immediately inside a well-built structure, preferably in an interior room on the lowest floor, and to remain indoors until the storm has passed.
