LINCOLN, Neb. — The Nebraska State Patrol arrested 13 drivers for driving under the influence during a St. Patrick’s Day enforcement effort aimed at reducing impaired driving.

The campaign ran from March 13 through March 17 as part of a national initiative to improve roadway safety during the holiday period.

In addition to DUI arrests, troopers issued 288 citations for speeding and 19 for driving under suspension. Other violations included eight open container citations, nine for minor in possession of alcohol, 10 for not wearing a seat belt and six for improper child restraint.

Troopers also conducted 145 motorist assists during the five-day effort.

The enforcement period came amid challenging conditions across the state, as troopers also responded to blizzard conditions in eastern Nebraska and assisted with wildfire response efforts in western Nebraska.

Officials said the campaign highlights ongoing efforts to reduce impaired driving and improve safety on Nebraska roadways.

The enforcement effort was supported in part by grant funding from the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office.
