Transcript:

The out of the gate post Labor Day fight between GOP Congressman Don Bacon and Democrat Tony Vargas is an all-out drug war with Democrats accusing Bacon of voting against plans to lower the cost of insulin.

But in his first TV ad of the campaign, Bacon says otherwise.

BACON Ad: I’m especially proud that he’s capped insulin prices at $35 a month.

But did he. The question comes because the cap on insulin prices was part of the Democrats’ Inflation Reduction Act, and guess what.

Joe Jordan, News Channel Nebraska: You voted against that provision, correct?

Rep. Bacon: I voted against the 87,000 auditors that they were going to add to the IRS with that bill and so that was smart. But I voted for a separate stand-alone bill that would have capped insulin costs.

That stand-alone bill is the Affordable Insulin Now Act, which passed in the House but then stalled.

The insulin price capping bill that passed both the House and Senate and was signed into law by the President was, once again, part of the Inflation Reduction Act which again, Bacon voted against.

Rep. Bacon: The main problem with that bill is you're going to add 87,000 primarily auditors, that are going to try to squeeze $300 billion of new revenue out of the taxpayers, half of which are middle class voters. I know they deny it, but the facts are from CBO and other outside agencies and that's the facts.

Joe Jordan, News Channel Nebraska: But in that bill was the $35 insulin cap for everybody.

Rep. Bacon: But I voted for a standalone bill, and I stand by that vote.

So when it comes to lowering the cost of insulin, Bacon voted both for it and against it.
