While his critics complain he’s only helping the wealthy, Governor Jim Pillen says when it comes to tax cuts—cuts he signed into law this week—he’s just getting started.

NCN’s Joe Jordan spoke with the governor who is eyeing even lower income tax rates.

NCN’s Joe Jordan: Governor, was there anything in the budget that you wanted that you did not get?

Gov. Jim Pillen:  Yeah, yeah, you know I'm a fiscal conservative. We spend too much money on government, we're just getting started.

We don’t want to get beat by Iowa, so you know we're down in that 3.99 range to compete with Iowa in income tax.

NCN: If you had your way what would that 3.99 number be, zero?

Gov. Pillen: Well, we've got neighbors, right. We've got neighbors, so we all know people that are moving to Texas. We all know that people are moving to Florida, we have to get in the game. And I'm not advocating that Nebraska goes to zero income tax but we have to be in the top ten. Still have a long way to go on property tax. Property taxes are so out of whack in this state you don't even need to own property. The school funding, having the state provide more school funding, we’ll go from being 49th to like 27th. But if you think I'm going to let anybody know exactly what I'm thinking, I don't give my cards away.
