LFR spends hours battling west Lincoln house fire

LINCOLN, Neb. - Lincoln Fire & Rescue spent hours Tuesday night into Wednesday morning fighting a house fire in West Lincoln.
The call came in around 6:15 p.m. Tuesday evening of a house on fire near Northwest 22nd & West Q Streets.
The first crews arrived at the fire which was heavily located on the backside of the home. Due to an issue with the house, specifically in the basement, firefighters were only able to battle the blaze from the inside for a few minutes, before retreating and exhausting the rest of the fire from outside.
The cause of the fire, according to the homeowner, was that a cushion fell onto a space heater, the cushion soon caught fire which spread to the rest of the room.
Everyone inside made it out safely, but sadly one of the homeowner's dogs did not.
The Red Cross and family members are helping assist the family with relocation, but all that they owned was inside the home and the home was labeled as a total loss.
