With police numbers in Omaha down, Stothert looks to up pay
With Omaha’s police ranks over 100 officers shy of full-strength Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert is looking at pay raises to retain and recruit more officers.
During her annual State of the City Address today Stothert touted Omaha as a safe city with violent crime in 2022 down in “nearly every category, including homicides, rape and robbery.” In addition she noted that so far this year, Omaha is murder-free, a highly unusual statistic.
At the same time though, she also said the Omaha Police Department is no longer the highest paid department in Nebraska, a distinction she wants back.
Following her comments, she spoke with NCN’s Joe Jordan who asked how much of a raise is in store.
